Dr. Smith is Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation | Diplomat American Academy of Medical Acupuncture
Cynthia Smith MD has 27 years of experience in healing through integrating western and eastern science and philosophy.
Dr Smith graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1989 and completed an internship in Pediatrics at John Sealy Hospital and her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City in 1993. She was always attracted to empowering the patient which led her to pursue a specialty that was less pharmaceutical and more movement based.
Her own health issues guided her to pursue energy medicine. She completed the medical acupuncture for physicians course at UCLA in 1995 and found acupuncture so effective that she completed the Advanced Classical Chinese Medicine program for physicians in Santa Barbara in 2004. She continued her training in Qi Gong in Italy and is a Master Qi Gong healer and practitioner.
Dr. Smith has cultivated other techniques such as Feldenkrais, Alexander technique, Reiki, Terzi method, ACMOS method, affirmations, yoga and pilates and incorporates all of these into her practice.
Through the practice and study of acupuncture, Qi Gong and nutrition, Dr. Smith has learned the ancient wisdom of healing through Chinese medicine, the breath and movement while remaining current in Western methodology and standard treatment. Dr. Smith also facilitates community wellness events and is available for educational lectures. Groups and individuals are rewarded by her presentations of her inspirational healing journey. She is available to lead Qi Gong instruction at institutions including hospitals, nursing homes, schools, religious and spiritual institutions, and businesses.
My Own Healing Journey "Physician heal thyself." My western condition was chronic, degenerative and "incurable". It developed gradually as a result of my stressful environment and was perpetuated by the cycle of chronic pain and my difficulties in believing in other solutions to restore my health. I chose methods of healing outside of the western paradigm, as I knew medications were not helpful for me and would mask symptoms. The road back to health was a journey of learning and practice. It has changed my perspective about health both individually as well as for the health of my patients and society.
